The garden of Nancy and Barry Bosworth covers about one acre of land near Brookside
Gardens. The house
was remodeled in a contemporary style in 1996. This is a young woodland garden dominated
by tulip poplars. Understory trees include flowering and Kousa dogwoods, Halesia,
holly, redbuds, Stewartia, Styrax japonica, Virginia fringetree, and Japanese maples.
Along the winding paths are about 75 azaleas, with representatives of the major hybrids.
They are interspersed with various perennials, including ferns, astilbes, carex, and
hostas. Other wildflowers and perennials occasionally surprise the attentive walker.
Parts of the garden emphasize combinations of different foliage textures and tones.
There is a small waterfall and fish pond (complete with noisy pig frogs), a pergola,
patio, a stone wall, and benches here and there. As with all gardens, it is a
"work in progress" with continued additions of new plant varieties.
